Frequently asked

What is Candela?
A light meter for film photographers: incident and reflected metering, spot readings, reciprocity compensation, and a log that keeps a record of every frame on every roll.
Do I need an account or a subscription?
No. Candela is a one-time purchase — no account, no sign-in, no subscription, no ads.
Does it work offline?
Completely. Candela never connects to the internet and makes no network requests.
How do I export a roll?
Open the roll and use Export / Share. You can share a clean readable sheet or a CSV (which opens directly in any spreadsheet app) through the standard iOS share sheet.
How does metering with the camera work?
The camera reads the light in the scene in real time to calculate exposure. No photo or video is ever captured, recorded, or saved — see the privacy policy.
Where is my data stored? Can I lose it?
Rolls, film profiles and settings are stored locally on your iPhone. If you use iCloud Backup, they're included automatically in your personal iCloud backup, so a new phone restores them with everything else.
How is reciprocity handled?
For long exposures, Candela applies reciprocity compensation for supported films so the corrected time is the one you actually shoot.
